摘 要：科技英语作为全民英语的一种语体，它的特点总是要通过语法和词汇表现出来的。本文主要讨论如何结合语气（Mood）在科技英语中的用法进行英语语法教学。

科技英语(English for Science and Technology简称EST)作为全民英语的一种语体，它的特点总是要通过语法和词汇表现出来的。 本文主要结合语气(Mood)在科技英语中的用法进行英语语法教学：
一、祈使语气（The Imperative Mood）：祈使语气在其他语
体中用的最多的是表示请求，命令，建议，而在科技英语中祈使语气多用于以下几种情况：
1.表示指示，建议，注意事项，以及说明试验操作程序，仪器设备使用说明上常常使用。
如：Protect the unit against excessive heat, dust, shock hazards and moisture.
不可将本机放在温度过高，灰尘太多，易受震和潮湿的方。
Carefully fill the rest of the tube with alcohol.
仔细地将试管的剩余部分用酒精加满。
Do not leave the exhausted batteries in the battery compartment. 不要把用尽了的电池留在电池室里。
2.祈使句+and…这种结构在科技英语里常常用来表达条件和结果，或设想和推论，即祈使句部分表示条件或设想，and引出的另一个句子表示结果和推论。
如：Place a clean nail in a solution of copper sulfate, and the nail will be coated with red copper.
把一枚干净的钉子放在硫酸铜溶液中，钉子就会镀上一层红色的铜。
Take a handful air, and you will hold billions of atoms.
如果抓一把空气，你的手里就抓着无数的原子。
3.一些动词（如let，suppose，say，1maglne，take等）的祈使语气表示：设，设想，假定，譬如等意。
如：Let AB equal CD. 设AB等于CD。Suppose that the magnet moves away from the coil, then the flux will be decreasing.
假定把磁铁从线圈中拔出，那么磁通量就会减少。
We need take only one current path, say that through R.
我们只需电流的一个通路，如通过R的通路。

二、虚拟语气（The Subjunctive Mood）在科技英语中虚拟语气多用于以下情况：
1.非真实条件句中(Sentences of Unreal Condition)，而且多用表示与现在事实相反的谓语动词的虚拟语气。
这种用法并不强调与现在事实相反，而是表示没有时间性的条件及推理。
如：If the sun did not Shine on the earth，there would be no trees. 没有阳光的照射，地球上就没有树木。 If it were at a temperature of 32 degrees Fahrenheit, this Cubic inch of hydrogen would contain about 880 billion atoms. 如果温度在华氏32度，这一立方英寸的氢就包含大约有8.8×1020个原子。
2.表示将来不能实现或无把握实现的条件和推理。
如：If all our air should suddenly rush away into space, the blue of the sky would be gone. 假 如大气突然脱离地球散到太空中去，天空的蓝色就要消失。
3.含蓄条件句（Sentences of Implied Condition），在这种句子中所假设的条件不是用条件从句表示，而是用某些词（如：without，otherwise，or等）、介词短语（如：but for, in the absence of…，in any other way等）、动词不定式和句子表示。
如：Without oxygen,burning could not take place. 没有氧气，燃烧就不能发生。
Gas molecules move in all direction, otherwise the color could not spread throughout the jar.
气体分子是到处运动的，不然的话，这种颜色就不能扩散及整个瓶子。
But for the air, no life on earth could have been developed.
如果没有空气，地球上就不能产生任何生命。
The molecules of water are in-credibly minute. It would take about 125 million of them to form a row an inch long. 水分子小得难以置信，要排成一英寸长就需要大约一亿二千五百万个水分子。
Reduce the sun to the size of a ball. The earth would then be the size of a grain of sand.
把太阳缩到球那么大，那么地球就是砂粒那么小。
