孔雀向朱诺诉苦，说夜莺以她甜美的歌喉深得大家喜爱，而他每一开口就被人嘲弄。朱诺安慰孔雀说：“但是你的羽毛和身材都是极为美丽的呀。你的头羽有着绿宝石般的光耀，你又有华美的尾羽来开屏。”孔雀说：“我既然歌唱比不上人家，这种无声的美丽又有什么用呢？”朱诺再劝道：“每种生灵的命运是由命运之神决定的。给予你的是美丽的容颜；给予老鹰的是力量；给予夜莺的是歌喉；给予渡鸟的是预报吉兆；给予乌鸦的是预告凶征。这些鸟儿对于各自的命运都是很满意的啊！”
A peacock complained to Juno,saying that while the nightingale pleased everyone with her beautiful voice,nobody was happy to hear peacock singing.Juno consoled him saying that:"But you have a beautiful figure and your feathers were most colorful.The splendor of the emerald shines in your neck,and you unfold a tail with gorgeous plumage."The peacock replied:"If I can not be good at singing,what purpose is this silent beauty of mine?"Juno consoled him again,saying that:"The purpose of every life is assigned by God of fate.To you were assigned this beauty.to the eagle,strength,to the nightingale,beautiful voice,to the raven,the ability to foretell fortune,to the crow,the power to predict misfortune.These birds are all contented with their lots."
