A Broken Camera
Q:When my husband borrowed a friend's video camera,itstopped working while we had it.We found out the eight-year-old camera couldn't be repaired,and my husband wrote his pala check for the full price of a new one.The friend said,"Nonsense,"insisting he didn't want any money.Isn't thereany way we can make this up to him?
A:What a kind and thoughtful man your husband is! His offerto replace the broken camera was the right thing to do,butbecause your friend says he doesn't want any money,you should honor that request.Still,something creative can be done for your friend.How about taking him(plus his wife or a guest)out to dinner,or presenting him with a gift certificate tohis favorite restaurant? Or after he buys a new video camerayou can get him a top-quality camera bag.
一架坏了的摄像机
问：我的丈夫借了一个朋友的摄像机，当我们用它时却出了问题。我们发现这架用了8年的摄像机已无法再修复了，于是我丈夫按一架新摄像机的全价给他的朋友开了张支票。这位朋友说，“胡闹。”他坚持不要什么钱。有什么办法让我们对他做些补偿呢？
答：你的丈夫多么友善而又考虑周到啊！他提出要对坏了的摄像机做出赔偿，这样做是对的，但因为你们的朋友说他不要什么钱，你们应该尊重他的要求。然而还是有些颇有新意的事可以为你们的朋友做的。比如请他（和他的妻子或一位客人）到外面吃顿饭，或是送他一张他所喜爱的餐厅的餐券，或者在他买了新的摄像机后你们可以送给他一个质量上乘的摄像机袋。
