Description of the Background

1.A performance of ballet is in progress.

2.Bob and Sally are in the audience talking without regard for the performance.

3.The woman next to Sally looks at them with disgust.

4.Apparently her attention has been distracted from the ballet.

5.The little girl sitting next to the boy looks very sad.

6.The rest of the audience look very angry because they can not concentrate.

7.They turn around in their seats and show their displeasure.

8.They are disgusted with the bad manners of the young couple.

9.They are giving the boy and the girl dirty looks.

A performance of ballet is in progress.

A ballet is being performed.

The ballet dancers on stage are putting on a beautiful show.

The girls on stage are putting on a beautiful ballet performance.

Here we have...

In this picture...

This is a picture of...

例如:

Here we have a ballet performance being interrupted by two young people who are chatting endlessly instead of watching the dancers.

In this picture we have two teenagers who are talking very loudly, ruining the enjoyment of the audience.

This is a picture of a theater where a ballet performance is in progress while two teenagers are talking so loudly that no one can enjoy it.

第二句Bob and Sally are in the audience talking without regard for the performance.

The boy's turned to the left in his seat to face the girl.

He is talking quite loudly, with his arm slung over the back of his seat.

Maybe he is laughing at something that the girl is saying.

The girl has long wavy hair.

She is turned to the right in her seat to face the boy.

She is gesturing as she is talking to the boy.

The woman next to Sally looks at them with disgust. 我们可以记住look at sb.with disgust这一表达方法。

第四句Apparently her attention has been distracted from the ballet.

The little girl sitting next to the boy looks very sad.

The girl to the right of the boy has two braids and bangs.

She has a round moon face.

She looks very distraught at the two talkers.

She really wants to enjoy the performance, but she can't,because of the loud conversation going on beside her.

She can't concentrate on the performance because she is distracted by the conversation.

The rest of the audience look very angry because they can not concentrate.

They turn around in their seats and show their d;spleasure.

They are disgusted with the bad manners of the young couple.

They are giving the boy and the girl dirty looks. 短语give somebody a dirty look或give somebody dirty looks表示“狠狠地瞪着某人”,如:

I give dirty looks to people who act very rudely.

I give dirty looks to people who talk very loudly when they should be quiet.

Comment

1.This type of behavior is not permissible,as it destroys everyone's concentration.

2.Talking in the theater destroys other people's concentration.

3.People go to the theater to enjoy themselves, not to be bothered.

4.They need a quiet atmosphere to focus on the ballet performance on stage.

5.But now they cannot enjoy the performance because the boy and the girl are disturbing them.

6.The young couple are very selfish.

7.They are so self-absorbed that they do not notice other people around them as a group or as a whole.

8.They are talking, laughing, and having a wonderful time at the expense of the audience.

9.Someone in the audience should tap them on the shoulder and ask them to be quiet.

10.But the boy and the girl only have eyes for each other and seem oblivious of what is going on around them.

第三句People go to the theater to enjoy themselves, not to be bothered.

People go to the theater to enjoy themselves, not to be bothered.

watch a performance

troubled

enjoy life

distracted

have a good time

 disturbed

appreciate what

life has to offer

irritated or annoyed

第六句The young couple are very selfish.

The young couple are very self-absorbed.

inconsiderate

selfish

rude

uncivilized

uncouth

第八句They are talking, laughing, and having a wonderful time at the expense of the audience.中的at the expense of是一个很常用的词组,意为“在……

Someone in the audience should tap them on the shoulder and ask them to be quiet中的tap them on the shoulder意为“拍一拍他们的肩膀”(以阻止他俩的谈话)。

Excuse me,but I'm trying to enjoy the performance.

Excuse me,but we are all trying to enjoy the performance.

1.This is ill-mannered behavior.People are distracted by it and they are unable to concentrate on the performance. It would be appropriate for the young couple to go out of the theater to continue their discussion.

2.This is rude and unacceptable behavior. In some cases a tap on the shoulder can act as a reminder of where they are and may be sufficient to restore order and allow everyone to enjoy the ballet in peace.

3.This is not an uncommon situation these days,as people appear to be very self-centered and ignore others around them.

4.Boys and girls sitting together create a problem. They only have eyes for one another, and tend to ignore where they are in spite of the beautiful show and the skilled performance of the ballet dancers.

5.Thoughtless behavior on the part of Sally and Bob will doubtless make them very unpopular. They should show consideration towards the talented ballerinas on the stage, and towards the audience who wish to watch the performance. As they are already seated in the theater, they presumably intend to watch. If they need to continue their conversation, they should quietly leave the auditorium.

实例:

Sample 1

The boy and the girl in the audience are having a wonderful time laughing and talking with each other, but they are disturbing the other members of the audience. The people around them are looking at them sternly because they are disrupting the ballet performance and ruining the other people's experience. The couple are so absorbed in each other that they are unaware of what is going on around them. This is rude and unacceptable behavior and someone should reprimand them. They need to be reminded that other people are there to enjoy the ballet. The couple should either be quiet or leave the theater.

Sample 2

Sally is talking to Bob in the theater while a ballet performance is on stage. They are so absorbed in their conversation that they do not notice,or do not care, that they are ruining the performance for the rest of the audience.People around them are understandably upset and angry with their behavior because it is disrupting the audience's enjoyment of the performance.People in an audience should be aware of the people around them and should not do anything to disturb the performance.
