We know that our hometown,Quanzhou is a well-known oriental seaport and the start of Maritime Silk Road,with rich historical and cultural heritages.Today,please follow me to feel the charm of Silk Road in Quanzhou.
There are countless cultural sites in Quanzhou.Among them,Gusao Pagoda attracts me a lot.Gusao Pagoda is also known as Wanshou Pagoda,which was built in Nansong Dynasty with a history of more than 800 years.There was a beautiful but sad story recorded in Minshu reminding us of that hard time.A poor man called Haisheng was forced to make a living overseas.He went to Nanyang for business.(Now,it’s known as the southeast Asia.) The poor man’s wife and sister missed him so much that they often went to the mountain and overlooked the sea,hoping their beloved would come back soon.In order to look far into the ocean,they carried stones to stack.As time passed by,the stones were heaped up as a high platform.Standing at the platform,they waited and prayed for the reunion.Day by day,year after year,they still couldn’t wait for the return of Haisheng.One day,they saw the kids flying a kite.One idea occurred to them.They could write a letter to Haisheng which could be sent by the kite.Without hesitation,they cut their long hair as the string of the kite.Fortunately,the letter was finally received by Haisheng.The poor man hastily decided to come back.With the approaching of Haisheng,things went the other side.Suddenly,a storm came and overturned the boat.He drown in the sea.To their desperation,they hugged and jumped into the sea.In memory of the two sister-in-law,folks built a pagoda named after them,where the stone platform stood.This is really a moving story as well as witness to the suffering of people from Shishi who immigrated to other countries at that time.
Standing at the top of Gusao Pagoda and overlooking from it,you’ll see the endless sea and even every single scenes at the foot of the mountain.It’s definitely a visual feast as well as a quite relaxing moment.
This pagoda is the voice of the ancient times,the essence of the ancient times,and it is the postcard of the past and the future on Maritime Silk Road.
In addition to Gusao Pagoda,there are many other sites in Quanzhou，such as Kaiyuan Temple,Qingyuan Mountain,Liusheng Pagoda,and so on.We should try our best to protect them and love all of them.These limited legacies are infinite wealth of the world and infinite spiritual civilization.Welcome to visit and understand the unique ancient charm of Quanzhou.
