It suggests that the language used under all kinds of communication must meet certain criteria. However, as we have seen, irregularities and rules coexist. According to Crystal, the fundamental feature of netspeak is its unique vocabulary.
1. Phonological variations
Phonological level presents language in its spoken form. There are a number of distinct kinds of ways to express that can make netspeak more efficient, humorous and innovative, including phonological variation.
1.1 Homophones
Homophones relate to words having the same or similar pronunciation but different spellings and meanings and contributing to providing a rhetoric way to leave the special impression on readers via the same or similar pronunciation.
Table 1.1 The homophones in Chinese Netspeak
The adoption of English words has an important influence on new words, especially the code-switching between English and Chinese.
2. Lexical variation
Lexical variation emphasizes the new word creation through transferring the forms. It relates to morphological deviation without changing the meaning.
2.1 Affixation
As we have seen, morpheme is the smallest unit of Chinese words that it has comparative narrow and fixed meaning. They may be morphologically bound together to build the Chinese Internet neologisms.

3.Summary
In sum, this chapter can give rise to three essential ways to establish vocabularies of netspeak, that is to say (1) the phonological variation; (b) the lexical variation, and (3) the semantic change of vocabulary.
