英语中，用于表示因果关系的方式很多。比如：介词from,at,through,due to,because of,owing to；连接副词hence,therefore,thus；从属连词because,as,now that,in that,seeing(that)…therefore,since…then/in that case,on the ground(s)that,by reason that.另外，主动词（分为单词动词和词组动词两类）也可用来表示逻辑上的因果关系。现分述如下，仅供参考。
一、单词动词
单词动词指一个单词构成的动词。常用的表示因果关系的单词动词有：arouse,cause,elicit,engender,evoke,ignite,impel,induce,make,provoke等。例如：
1.arouse
Her strange behaviour aroused our suspicions.
我们之所以会怀疑她，那是因为她的行为非常古怪。
2.cause
The cold weather caused many animals to die.
由于天气寒冷的缘故，许多动物都冻死了。
3.elicit
Lung cancer elicited the death of those two people.
那两个人因为得了肺癌去世了。
4.engender
His stirring performance engendered our tension.
他的表演非常刺激，所以我们感到很紧张。
5.evoke
His failure evoked my sympathy.
我同情他的原因是他失败了。
6.ignite
His peovocahve remarks ignited their anger.
他们愤怒的原因是他讲了一些极具煽动性的话。
7.impel
My brother's success impelled me to greater efforts.
因为我兄弟取得了成功，所以我比以前更加努力了。
8.induce
His illness was induced by overwork.
他生病的原因是疲劳过度。
二、词组动词
词组动词是指由两个或两个以上的单词构成的动词。常用的表示因果关系的词组动词有：arise out of/from.bring about,bring forth,bring on,contribute to,give birth to,give occasion to,give rise to,lead to,result from,result in,set off,stem from 等。例如：
1.arise out of/from
Her mental problems arose out of/from her husband's death.
她失去了丈夫，所以她有了一些精神上的问题。
2.bring about
The fall in oil prices brought about the increasein business activity.
生意好起来的原因是石油价格的下跌。
3.bring forth
Eating too much brought forth her sickness.
因为东西吃太多，所以她病倒了。
4.bring on
The fact that he had died from AIDS brought on a panic among the patients in his former patients.
因为艾滋病夺走了他的生命，所以他以前的病人感到非常恐慌。
5.contribute to
Eating contaminated food contributed to his illness.
他生病的原因是吃了不干净的食物。
6.give birth to
The flood gave birth to the collapse of that dam.
大坝倒塌的原因是洪水的泛滥。
7.give occasion to
His negligence gave occasion to the accident.
他的疏忽是导致这次事故发生的原因。
8.give rise to
Her disappearance gave rise to their anxiety.
他们很担心是因为她失踪了。
9.lead to
Do you know what led to his failure?
你知不知道他失败的原因是什么?
10.result from
His mother's death resulted from a cancer on her breast.
他母亲因为是患了乳癌去世了。
11.result in
The heavy rain resultbd in the cancellation of that football match.
因为雨下得很大，所以那场比赛被取消了。
12.set off
The inclement weather set off the spread of that disease.
因为天气比较恶劣，所以那种疾病迅速蔓延了开来。
13.stem front
Their discontent stemmed from low pay and poor working conditions.
因为工资低、工作条件差，所以他们产生了不满的情绪。
