Deep in southern Africa,on the mighty Zambezi(注:Zambezi赞比西河(非洲南部))River, there's a falling wall of water so awesome and powerful that you can see its mist from 20 milesaway.

It's called Victoria Falls and thrill seekers from across the globe are jumping at(注:jump at 急切地接受,欣然应承)the chance to experience its power first hand.Victoria Falls has over 500 million cubic meters of water flowing over its edgeduring flood season. To be exact, every minute more than 130 million gallons of water plunge to the bottom of the gorge over 320 feet down. It's twice as high as Niagara(注:Niagara =Niagara Falls 尼亚加拉瀑布[北美洲]) and there's seven times the amount of water falling over it than is held in the Colorado(注:Colorado=Colorado River 科罗拉多河[北美洲西部]).

This mystical wonder sat uninhabited by humans until the 12th century when Chief Mukuni and his tribe settled here. And because they didn't find anybody else, they thought and believed that only the gods must exist in this beautiful site.Over time, the God's called 73 other tribes to the area. But Victoria Fallsremained a secret to the rest of the world until 1855,when Scottish missionary David Livingston discovered the majestic falls quite by accident, and he claimed it for his queen,Victoria.Livingston wasn't here to find the set of falls, his main aim when coming to Africa was to get rid of slavery and to bring the Bible.Today, the town surrounding the falls is still called Livingston.

These powerful falls have certainly had an effect on thrill seekers especially the free failers jumping off of the gorge bridge.Water isn't the only thing plunging to the bottom of the gorge.

There are countless ways to experience the wonder of Victoria Falls,by hot air balloon, helicopter, even on the back of an elephant.

But if you're the type that prefers to keep your feet on the ground,a hike through the falls should do you nicely.Just be sure and bring your raingear(注:raingear雨衣),a constant mist soaks everything in sight. While the mist may make for a tough hike, plants and animal, depend on the falls for their lives. In the case of victoria Falls they sustain a rain forest type environment which is very unique to that area, and this is due to the constant moisturization(注:moisturization 温度) of this area by the spray that's being thrown up from the falls as they plunge to the bottom of the gorge.

With such ecological(注:ecological生态的) diversity, incredible natural beauty, and so much to do,it's no wonder that the falls are a wonder. For being the largest curtain of falling water in the world and providing endless ways to enjoy it,Victoria Falls roars onto our list at number seven.
