UNFORBIDDEN NIGHTS
The Meridian Gate of the Palace Museum, or the Forbidden City, lights up the dark sky in Beijing on February 19 in celebration of the Lantern Festival, which signals the end of the Spring Festival celebrations.
The museum, which was the royal palace from 1420 to 1911 during Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911),extended its opening hours for two days, allowing the public entrance into the ancient palace at night for the first time in 94 years.
The Lantern Festival falls on the 15t h day of the first month of the Chinese lunar calendar and has a history of more than 2,000 years.
